The rolling of cool, crisp air and warm colored leaves; sweet reminders that Fall is here. Pffftt not in Miami, our only season variety is the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, and yea its hot as hell. But for those of you like me, who buy overpriced “Apple Crisp” candles, rock the occasional [and unnecessary] scarf & boot combo and scour the shelves for anything that says pumpkin, this list is for you. I’ve done all the heavy sipping, and compiled my list of Miami’s Top 5 Fall Inspired Drinks. Because the way I see it, even your spirits should come with a little Seasoning.
Bourbon is my dirty little paramour. Thus, this article will be whiskey heavy.
#1 The Smoke Fashion
The Smoke Fashion at the Cocktail Collection (above Tobacco Road) Although this hidden gem will be closing on Oct. 25th (due to the real estate development), you still have enough time to savor their Smoke Fashion. This drink includes bourbon, bitters & smoke; a toasty play on the classic cocktail. If Bourbon is your poison, I highly recommend it.
Happy Hour is daily from (7-9 p.m.) for half off drinks, and Thursdays means ladies night. Get it while it lasts!
#2 The Old Thymer
The Old Thymer at Shikany (Wynwood) Shikany, Wynwood’s newest addition, totes an exquisite “concoction” list. The “Old Thymer” includes; fragrant Thyme, Almond liqueur, Spicy Ginger Shrub, Brown Sugar and Bourbon. This drink is definitely for the more experienced palate and its herbaceous[ness] may be overpowering for some. However, for all you Miami “foodies”, this drink is definitely reminiscent of a cabin in the woods and a great Fall pick!
Note: Shikany is a full service restaurant, but grab a seat at the bar and watch as the mixologist crafts your cocktail.
#3 The Cinnamon & Spice Shipyard
The Cinnamon & Spice Shipyard at Wood Tavern (Wynwood) Most bars carry seasonal beers, but Wood Tavern adds a little cinnamon spice and everything nice to theirs! Order your pumpkin varietal (Shipyard Pumpkinhead is my favesies) from the inside bar and they’ll offer you a tall glass rimmed with cinnamon and sugar. Mmmmm Calabasa, better than Mom’s pumpkin pie [or Publix’s for that matter]
#4 The Salted Caramel Old Fashioned
The Salted Caramel Old Fashioned at the Broken Shaker (at the Freehand Miami) Pretty much any drink you get from the Broken Shaker is going to be “nommy” [yes. thats “nom” & “yummy” combined]. But if you’re looking for your Fall fix while taking in sunny Miami Beach, choose the Salted Caramel Old Fashioned. This drink includes Old Forrester Bourbon mixed with salted caramel and Werther’s Original bitters. Seriously, Werther’s Original bitters, enough said! and you’re welcome.
#5 The Grand Dad’s Breakfast
The Grand Dad’s Breakfast at Radio (South Beach) Radio just released their Fall cocktail menu, and as expected you’ll Fall in love with these new recipes or Fall on your face from one too many. Either way, my final Fall favorite is The Grand Dad’s Breakfast. We’re talking Old Grand-Dad Bourbon, cranberry juice, house-made Fruity Pebbles orgeat ( yea…you read that correctly, Fruity Pebbles), fresh citrus, and an apple bubble reduction. The cranberry and apple will give you those Fall flavors you’re seeking, while still giving you those tropical flavors indicative of Miami… Dale.
Note: Happy Hour is daily from 6-8 pm, 2-4-1 drinks.
