This past Sunday, some of the ’90’s best bands came together for a night of great rock-n-roll. It was a perfect night in Pompano, albeit a hot one, but it was dry, and the crowd was amped! The 90’s were a decade synonymous with grunge and the “Seattle Sound” but it was also a decade of some great alt rock bands. Dishwalla, Tonic, and The Gin Blossoms were 3 of these bands. 20 plus years later and these bands still play the songs everyone remembers and wants to hear.
From their hit “Counting Blue Cars” which was in continuous circulation on radio stations, to Tonic’s “If You Could Only See” “You Wanted More” and The Gin Blossoms “Till I hear it from you” “Hey Jealousy”, not only were these songs fan favorites, but they sound just a good today as they did back in the 90’s.
It was a great night of harmonic, sing-a-long nostalgia that somehow still resonates today and equates to damn good song writing. These bands are always fun to see live, whether you remember their songs from a movie soundtrack, or you still play their CD’s, pick up an album from any of these artists, and you won’t be disappointed. The hooks, riffs, and melodies make these good time feel good tunes.
So the next time you take a road trip, drop the top, open the windows and pop in “Lemon Parade” by Tonic, or “Pet Your Friends” by Dishwalla, or “New Miserable Experience” by The Gin Blossoms. You can’t go wrong with any of those, and you may even sing along.
