Last Friday, I went to Pancakes and Booze at LMNT to scope out the scene and grab me a few pancakes after work.
Naturally, as a broke college student, when an event invite involves the phrase “ALL YOU CAN EAT PANCAKES” there is a 90% chance I’ll show up. Plus, three of my fave DJ friends Nigby, Enzymatique, and Atman, were providing the tunes for the night and being the audiophile (and pancake aficionado) that I am, there was no way I was missing this event.
I dragged my tired behind across the causeway after work, grabbed my plate of pancakes and walked the room searching for fresh faces and fresh fits. I was not disappointed.
THE 90s DANCEHALL QUEEN
When I first saw her I instantly knew her look was inspired by Patra, Queen of early 90s Dancehall, which she later confirmed. If you Don’t know who patra is please pause, open up a new tab and take the time to educate yourself with this 90s classic. Not only does she look dope she’s talented too. All the artwork she’s standing on front of was made by her.
THE 90s FLY GIRL
This is Ashley. She was a little shy but luckily she did let me get a few pictures of her. As y’all should know by now theres not much things I love more than early 90s fashion. So of course a girl in Tims, shorts and a crop top was not gonna slip by me without ending up on this blog somehow.
THE NO FUCKS GIRL
This girl is awesome. I only talked to her for like 30 seconds, but she left a really strong impression on me. Super cool, super chill, having the time of her life in the gallery. She really stood out to me. In a room full of people wearing crop tops, palazzo pants and platform heels she wears all black and a green jacket, and I’m into it. She looks like she gives no fucks in the best way possible, and I love it.
THE DJ’S (2 of them, at least)
On the left is Atman and on the right is the ever elusive Nigby. They, along with Enzymatique, and one other DJ, kept the crowd moving all night. Atman has a tech house+minimal house sound, very art gallery/ runway show appropriate.
Nigby is sort of an international man of mystery. He shows up in the room like a goth ninja storm trooper with a laptop and headphones ready to fuck shit up and then throws down a HEAVY barrage of juke + Jersey House + Vogue + Detroit house fusion. He’s like a sound boy samurai. He comes thru, shuts it down then leaves without even showing you his face. What more could you want? soundcloud.com/nigbythirty
Definitely my favorite local dj. His sound is just about everything I could every want from a DK. It’s almost indescribable. He mixes between minimal futuristic sounds, deep thumping beats, tech house and everything in between. soundcloud.com/enzymatique

THE GOOD TIME GIRLS
These girls were just a big ball of energy. I enjoyed the 2 minutes I spent talking to them, the three of them were hilarious together! Plus they all looked super cute too. Tally, Sam, Debbie, if you’re looking for a new squad member hit me up I’m down.
This is Moose, I just met her, but I already think she’s awesome because
i <3 Moose
These two were so adorable together. The fact that they wore similar outfits too just made them even more adorable. I know some find it cheesy, but I think it’s awesome when couples coordinate their outfits.
I really love when I can tell that someone isn’t trying to fit into any sort of standards, trends or expectations with their look. That is the vibe I get from her. I feel like this look is 100% her and I appreciate that. Also, look how adorable her smile is, that’s a crest toothpaste commercial caliber of a smile right there!
THE BOLD BEAUTY
Stunning, what else can I say.
This group seriously made me reevaluate my swagger. The prints! The shoes! The gold! SO much detail! BRB, I need to go figure out why I still don’t have matching prints and paint splattered shoes yet.
THE STAND OUTS
These girls were everything. EVERYTHING! These are the kind of girls people scroll thru Tumblr for hours wishing you could be. But they’re the real deal and they’re out here IRL living and giving life.
THE LAST MINUTE ARRIVALS
I caught these two on their way in as I was on my way out. Luckily they spared a few minutes for me to photograph them. I loved the visual opposition they had between them. One was more feminine and one was more masculine, but they were both equally as gorgeous. They were both very sweet too. Mical, the one on the left, said she had actually questioned if she should wear that outfit, obviously she made the right decision.
