The theme of the Make-a-Wish Starlight Night Club was a mixture of Alice in Wonderland and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In one lounge, there was a stage that could have been dressed for a modern rendition of Shakespeare’s magical play. In a forest backdrop, a man with a hat of branches stood still as a tree while a girl in a hat of extending monarch butterflies danced around him like a fairy. It was the setting for the InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball’s after-party.

The InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball is one of the most anticipated philanthropic events of the local social scene. Every year now for the last 20, celebrities, business leaders, philanthropists, fashionistas, and socialites have gathered to raise money for children with life-threatening medical conditions. And, this year’s event at the bay front hotel was certainly no exception.

On Saturday, Nov 1, over 800 V.I.P’s came to drop dollars for this good cause.  At the Make-a-Wish Ball, a dinner and silent auction was followed by live entertainment.  The night’s performer was the legendary Diana Ross, who looked great with her usual voluptuous fro.  There were other famous faces at the charity event like Scottie Pipen and Kim Kardashian. After the ball, there was an after-party with a live fashion show that also had the magical theme. Male and female models in giant fairy wings paraded up and down the catwalk before strutting their stuff in daring outfits from Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour.  With sensual, theatrical movements and emotive facial expressions, the models walked, creating a dramatic, moving performance.  Dressed in the fashionable garments, they made modeling seem more like an artistic expression than simply a show of clothes.
