As part of its ever expanding programming, Art Days 2014 presents 4 FREE guided tours by artist T. Wheeler Castillo during its annual three day celebration. Commissioned by Miami Downtown Development Authority, these immersive experiences explore the neighborhood and attempt to incite conversations about the unique characteristics, cultural production, and history of our city. Included in Art Days 2013, Wheeler Castillo scripted guided tours featuring various aspects of the artistic community in the downtown neighborhood; this year, the overarching interest is a look at public spaces.
Stroll Through Museum Park
Take a guided stroll through Museum Park. We’ll explore the flora and fauna, consider Biscayne Bay, public waterfront and art that sits in the park. Meet on the East Porch, facing the bay.
Galleries
Art season has begun and galleries and Artist’s spaces are displaying new exhibitions. We’ll explore a few of these throughout Downtown Miami. Galleries: Dimensions Variable, TurnBased Press, Mira Leir Studio, Primary, MDC Galleries
Sitespecific/Sitedetermined
Location is taken into account when planning public art, and artists are inspired by landmarks, street corners, and buildings. We’ll visit temporary projects and permanent works, including Fringe projects curated by Amanda Sanfilippo, commissioned for Art Days 2014. Meet at Stephen P. Clark Government Center, under the trees next to main escalator.
Miami-Dade Cultural Center
Miami-Dade Cultural Center is an important resource for the city. We’ll consider Postmodern Architecture, visit with HistoryMiami, consider Jenny Brillhart’s intervention, and other public works.
2014 marks the third annual Art Days weekend. In this app you will find an Art Days event calendar that features over 170 free events (unless otherwise noted) packed into three fun-filled days. Art Days is a collaboration between the Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA) and the cultural spaces and artists residing in Downtown Miami. Together, we have ensured that there is something for everyone, including exhibitions, artist projects, walking tours, bike tours, art parties and family programming across a multitude of cultural venues throughout Downtown Miami. Not only this, in 2014 the Miami DDA launched a micro-grant program to support projects created uniquely for Art Days. As a result, Art Days features a wide selection of temporal art projects that explore a variety of creative fields including performance, art, music, dance, art education and more.
