Wynwood Art Fair Primer: The Minsky Sisters

Showgirl sisters Gin and Kristen Minsky will be performing their sensual song and dance numbers at Wynwood Art Fair in October. Here’s what you can expect to see from the celebrated old-school glamour vixens. Inspired by Hollywood showgirls and old musicals, the Minsky Sisters are a sexy vaudevillian tap dance duo straight out of a 1920’s cabaret. A sultry blur of feather boas, flashing gams, and player pianos, their routines are as seductive as they are nostalgic.

The sisters will be doing two performances the weekend of October 23rd. The first, titled “The Minsky Soapbox Oratory,” will see them wandering around the fair on foot accompanied by a trumpet player, stopping every so often to perform impromptu tap dances atop antique soapboxes. They will also be using the soapboxes to speak their mind through speech, song and dance, and audience members will be given the opportunity to air their thoughts atop a soapbox as well. Throughout this performance, the Sisters will be wearing 1920s “street” clothes, such as “cotton drop-waist day dresses or plus fours and braces.”

Later on, the Minsky Sisters will perform a large choreographed “spectacle” on the main stage. They’ll shed their street wear and “transform into showgirls with sequin dresses and feather head pieces.” Sounds hot – don’t miss it!
