COHEED & CAMBRIA
Coheed and Cambria brings a special stadium/hair band energy and rocks it incredibly hard at music festivals all over the country; always delivering a memorable experience. Having caught Coheed and Cambria myself at both Voodoo Fest and Bonnaroo back in college, I must say, I am beyond stoked to watch them perform live again, in my hometown, AND in such an intimate setting as The Fillmore’s. Plus, with WMC just around the corner, I’m absolutely looking forward to some good old rock and roll.
Check out this video I found (below) from the first (and best so thus far) Coheed & Cambria performance I ever attended (Voodoo Fest October 2007):
Apparently, although I have been completely unaware, Coheed & Cambria released a new album in October of last year, The Afterman: Ascension (Stream) and a second volume, The Afterman: Descension (Stream) last month. What do ya’ll think?
TENACIOUS D
Also taking me back to my college years with an old school acoustic style concert next week is Tenacious D. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Tenacious D is made-up of the lovable Jack Black and his BFF Kyle Glass (violently) strumming tunes on their acoustic guitars and telling stories.
Flashback: An old lover first introduced me to Tenacious D via the incredibly hilarious film, The Pick of Destiny (see movie trailer below, plus more sweet videos here). The film was directed by Liam Lynch and the all-star cast that includes Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Meat Loaf.
I’m not gonna lie, first time I saw it the film and heard the album I hated it! But like with many other cult classics, after sparking one up, I couldn’t get enough! Should be pretty awesome to watch Jack Black perform his antics right in our backyard as Tenacious D takes us on a trip down memory lane (or whatever trip you’d like to go). Tenacious D also released a new album in 2012 – Rize Of The Fenix. Check it:
