WHAT
For Downtown Art Days, MDC Live Arts & Tropicult have teamed up to provide a free WordPress Workshop for the local community. This basic introduction to WordPress focuses on the core elements & functionality of the WordPress.org self-hosted content management software – layout, content creation & management, development, & organization.
WHY
It’s simple. WordPress provides control over your data by allowing you to host your information on your own server whereas Blogspot, Tumblr, and other blogging platforms store YOUR data on THEIR server. No bueno! WordPress allows you to secure and backup your content and that’s why most of the web runs on WordPress.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
- WordPress beginners: filmmakers/ artists / musicians / students / professionals
- Small business owners who want to develop an online presence & take control over their website content.
- Community groups and nonprofits who want to create & manage a collaborative virtual space.
OBJECTIVES
- Understand administrator’s dashboard, configuration settings, and features.
- Essential Plugins for functionality, security and optimization.
- Understand widgets and how to add/change them.
- Learn the difference between pages and posts.
- Add images, documents, embed video, and more to your pages and posts.
- Understand the basics of HTML (shortcodes and quicktags)
- Organize content with categories and tags.
MATERIALS
Bring your laptop! You need to have a domain name & web hosting with WordPress installed.
