Nadia Beugré

Contemporary Dance from France

Friday, April 24 2015

9:00 PM-10:30 PM

Born in Côte d’Ivoire, Nadia was a member of the groundbreaking, all-female dance ensemble, Compagnie TchéTché. Quartiers Libres captures the power struggles and violence that can emerge when a populace is subjected to enduring illegitimate, despotic, and tyrannical leadership.

Are there spaces where we may not go? Places we do not have the right to explore? And if we cross the boundaries of forbidden spaces, what happens to us? Who do we become?

With Quartiers Libres (a French expression meaning “free territory”, “limitless space”), choreographer Nadia Beugré explores these questions in a raw and unbridled performance in which she confronts and resists that which seeks to oppress – in an immersive setting in the On.Stage Black Box at Miami-Dade County Auditorium.
