Third Horizon Film Festival Opening Night

Thursday, September 27 2018

6:30 PM-11:00 PM

Third Horizon Film Festival returns to Pérez Art Museum Miami to launch the third edition of its festival with the Florida premiere of the acclaimed documentary Black Mother, followed by an electric party on the terrace with DJ Juls.

Black Mother is the second feature documentary from director Khalik Allah, who fixes his lens on his mother’s homeland, Jamaica. A visual prayer that investigates the maternal spirit of the island through immersive portraiture, a melange of footage shot with various film stock, and audio testimonies from pastors to prostitutes, Black Mother is a hypnotic and challenging exploration of the land of wood and water.

The premiere is followed by a party on the terrace with Juls, the UK-based Ghanaian DJ/Producer who has quickly established himself as the don of the new wave of Afropop emerging from the continent. Infused with strains of Dancehall and House, Juls’ productions have become anthems at the sweatiest sessions from Lagos to Kingston and all around the African diaspora.
