Cuban pianist, composer and arranger Chucho Valdés is the most influential figure in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. Winner of five GRAMMY and three Latin GRAMMY Awards, the giant of Cuban piano makes a rare Miami appearance with a very special project, Irakere 40. With his band of top young Cuban musicians, Valdes is revisiting and reinterpreting the music of his legendary group Irakere following its 40th anniversary.

Launched in 1973, Irakere create an extraordinary body of work that includes seminal hits of Cuban popular dance music and Afro-Cuban jazz in many forms. The lineup, which went through many changes over the years, included a who’s who in Cuban music. Throughout, Chucho remained as the one, great constant, only venturing out as a solo artist in 2005. Now he looks back at the legacy of this supergroup with fresh ears and top Cuban musicians, and shares his musical legacy with audiences.
