Carlos Averhoff Jr.- South Beach Jazz Festival

The South Beach Jazz Festival returns Jan. 5 – 7, 2018 for a weekend of classic, Latin, and New Orleans-style acts. Over that weekend, open-air performances by local ensembles will draw Lincoln Road promenaders to linger, listen and groove. And even more significantly, the festival musicians will raise public awareness of persons who have disabilities.

Carlos Averhoff, Jr is a native Cuban saxophonist, artist of Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Music Jazz Label, composer and educator at Berklee College and New England Conservatory Preparatory School. His music offers a new hybrid sound of Cuban influenced Jazz. Averhoff, Jr. weaves hard-hitting jazz compositions with infectious Cuban rhythms creating an amalgam of polyrhythms and savory melodies that are rich with cultural influences deeply rooted in tradition.

All About Jazz described Carlos as “a dynamic fresh new voice on the saxophone and Latin Jazz Network portrays his playing as “quite extraordinarily expressive and beautiful,” further adding, “Carlos Averhoff Jr is a musician who is renowned as a virtuoso soloist.” Averhoff, Jr has collaborated with Jazz legendary drummers Louis Hayes, Jimmy Cobb, Bob Moses; Cuban drummer Horacio El Negro Hernandez, pianist Jason Moran; saxophonists Dave Liebman, Bill Pierce, Greg Osby, among other Jazz icons.
