ASIF’S GUNS
December 5 - December 9 2012
12:00 AM
In our never-ending quest to bridge profound imagination with avant-garde artistic concepts, our Crooks and Castles team in collaboration with Primary Projects presents Asif’s Guns, a powerful installation during Miami’s Art Basel week that challenges gun culture and iconography.
Audiences will get rare insight into the world of Asif Farooq – the chief architect behind Asif’s Guns – at his 400 sq. ft. pop-up shop located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District. Showcasing over 300 of Farooq’s meticulouslycrafted cardboard gun replicas, Asif’s Guns will be built to resemble an actual gun store, where each model is reproduced with painstaking accuracy and detailed parts.
In creating his masterpieces, Farooq maintains a strict devotion to both concept and commentary, triggering his viewers to become aware of their instinctive reactions to gun culture. “My guns are confessional; if a gift doesn’t hurt to give, then it isn’t much of a gift at all,” states the artist, who creates these objects of destruction as a private portrait and testament to his fallen brother.
