Artist Talk: Four Norwegian Performance Artists

Thursday, June 25 2015

7:00 PM-9:00 PM

Join ArtCenter’s Artistic Director Susan Caraballo in conversation with four performance artists from Norway who will be performing during the Miami Performance International Festival: Anja Carr, Susanne Irene Fjørtoft, Ida Grimsgaard and Franzisca Siegrist.

In her performances, Carr wears handmade costumes that transform mass-produced toys from her childhood. With repulsive or comical actions, she investigates the vulnerable distinctions between gender, fantasy and reality as well as the spheres between childhood and adulthood.

Fjørtoft’s work lies in the intersections between performance art, theatre strategies and the collective process of creation. Her work is an exchange between her “self,” her body, her surroundings and the people who influence her.

Grimsgaard uses costumes and visual language to animate objects giving them life and personality. Working with the body’s memory and emotional understanding, she communicates a language of the senses.

Siegrist, who works in an interdisciplinary way, works with her body in relation to time and space. Using quotidian objects, she transforms their use, takes them out of their regular context and gives them new meaning creating absurd and poetical images.

The artists will perform during the Miami Performance International Festival on Saturday, June 26 at Edge Zones Art Project and Sunday, June 27 at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Visit miamiperformancefestival.org for more information.
