THE WOOD BROTHERS

Opening set by Rachel Goodrich

Also featuring the Hollywood Contradance Ensemble accompanied by Cornbread

The Wood Brothers are a leading Americana and blues band, anchored by Chris (upright bass) and Oliver (acoustic and electric guitars) Wood. Chris is also known for his part in the iconic Medeski Martin & Wood. From early in their childhood in Boulder, CO., Chris and Oliver were steeped in American roots music. After pursuing separate musical careers for some 15 years, the brothers performed together at a show in North Carolina and realized they should be playing music together. Soon after, the pair recorded a batch of Oliver’s songs, channeling the shared musical heroes of their youth while seizing on their own individual strengths — Oliver’s songwriting and Chris’s forward-thinking musicianship. A demo landed them a recording contract with Blue Note, who released Ways Not To Lose in 2006 and they have released six albums since.

The opening set features folky troubadour Rachel Goodrich. The young singer-songwriter is a native of South Florida, now living and working in Los Angeles. Her music is described as “an eclectic blend of vaudeville-inspired indie pop, swing-jazz, and country-folk.” Ms Goodrich accompanies her tunes most often on guitar, ukulele, and kazoo.
