NEW ORLEANS: Celebrate Mardi Gras with the sounds and flavors of The Big Easy

GEORGE PORTER JR & the Runnin’ Pardners

Nathan and The Zydeco Cha-Chas

Opening set by the Dillard High School Jazz Band

Few bass players in the history of modern New Orleans music are as storied as George Porter Jr. He is best known as a founding member of the legendary band The Meters (now The Funky Meters), as well as collaborations with a who’s who in rock, soul and jazz. The Runnin’ Pardners is Porter’s own special project – he leads this quintessential New Orleans-based group, which continues to receive accolades on the jam band and festival scene.

Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas is led by accordionist Nathan Williamson, who grew up in a creole-speaking home in St Martinville, in the Louisiana bayou. Zydeco is the fast and furious fiddle and accordion-driven dance music of the region. The Cha Cha’s embody the best of this popular folk style.

The night also includes the award winning Dillard High School Jazz Band, a Broward County High School that has won top awards at many national competitions.
