Miami graff culture pays homage to the classic Writer’s Bench during Art Basel 2012
28 November 2012, Miami, Florida —Soula Booking & Local Impact present Writer’s Bench, a revival of the classic graff gathering place of the same name, during Art Basel Miami 2012.
Local & visiting writers will converge at Scratch Academy (450 NW 28th St.Miami, FL 33127) for panel discussions, Q & A sessions, black book signing, networking, sticker exchanges & free beer donated by Wynwood Brew Bar! An impressive lineup o
f guest speakers include T-KID (NYC), Estria & Prime (Hawaii) and a pioneering group of 80’s Miami graffiti writers, led by DASH, who will discuss Miami graff history.
Writer’s Bench will be in effect December 6 & 7 (1 – 3 pm) and December 8 (5 – 7 pm). Scratch Academy will shut it down with a Closing Sunday BBQ (3 – 8 pm), featuring DJs Immortal, Bounce and Thizz.
“We wanted to capitalize on the amazing opportunity that Basel offers to Wynwood, Writers from around the world come together in Miami, but don’t have a space to actually come together. We wanted to create that space,” says renowned graff artist Trek 6, host of Writer’s Bench.
The event will be co-hosted by Brimstone127, founder of PATH: Preserving, Archiving & Teaching Hiphop, Inc. Youth from the organization will be invited to experience the culture first hand at Writer’s Bench. “Prime & I are looking forward to building bridges between the youth & the established writers and sharing our culture with all,” stated Estria from Hawaii.
