Women Painting Film Screening + Catalog Launch
Saturday, September 16 2017
2:00 PM-5:00 PM
Women Painting, an exhibition, catalog and mini documentary film produced by Girls’ Club.
Inspired by the historic 1970s film “Painters Painting,” Girls’ Club presents a mini-documentary interviewing 11 artists from in their studios – in Miami, Hollywood, New York and New Jersey. Featured artists include Harumi Abe, Elisabeth Condon, Julie Davidow, Louise Fishman, Joanne Greenbaum, Sharon Horvath, Amy Mahnick, Beatriz Monteavaro, Vickie Pierre, Joan Snyder, and Shoshanna Weinberger. Interviewed and filmed by Girls’ Club directors Sarah Michelle Rupert and Michelle Weinberg, the artists share their personal stories, backgrounds, and theories on art, feminism and navigating the art world. The film is edited by artists/film makers Cara Despain and Kenny Riches.
The catalog, designed by Natalie Zlamalova, features essays from Wanda Texon, Associate Curator, MDC Museum of Art + Design and Ann Landi, arts writer and Vasari21.com blogger, and a new fiction piece by Denise Delgado.
Women Painting is on view now through September 29, 2018. Summer hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11am-5pm. Curated by Rupert and Weinberg, features over 50 works from the collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz.
