In collaboration with the Boca Museum of Art, Girls’ Club presents an intimate conversation with visiting artist Elaine Reichek and curator Kathleen Goncharov. Hear from the acclaimed artist as she prepares for a survey of her early works at the Boca Museum of Art.

Elaine Reichek is a conceptual artist who uses embroidery, knitting and fabric to explore aesthetics in art. Born in New York, she received a B.F.A. from Yale University and a B.A. from Brooklyn College. She has exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, Wexner Center for the Visual Arts, Columbus, OH, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Belgium, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Tel Aviv Art Museum, Israel. She lives in New York City.

An exhibition of Elaine Reichek’s earliest works will be on view at the Boca Museum of Art May 3 – July 27, 2014. Elaine Reichek: The Eye of the Needle will focus on the period of Reichek’s art dating from 1972 to 1995. The use of knitting and embroidery (often denigrated as simply craft), is central to Reichek’s work. As she says, “the meaning of an artwork is always bound up with its media and processes and their history.”
