Poet Cathy Bowman joins Miami’s own Campbell McGrath, Mia Leonin and Jaswinder Bolina for a reading and talk that is very much “under the influence.” Each poet will read his or her own work as well as work by poets (like Neruda and Plath) who have influenced them.
Catherine Bowman is the author of the poetry collections The Plath Cabinet, Notarikon, Rock Farm, and 1-800-HOT-RIBS, which was reissued in 2000 by Carnegie-Mellon University Press as part of its contemporary classics series. Her writing has been awarded the Peregrine Smith Poetry Prize, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award for Poetry, the Dobie Paisano Fellowship, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry, and four Yaddo Fellowships. Her poems have appeared in six editions of Best American Poetry as well as many other literary magazines and journals. She teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Indiana.
Campbell McGrath is the author of ten collections of poetry, most recently In the Kingdom of the Sea Monkeys (Ecco, 2012). He is the winner of the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, a Pushcart Prize, the Academy of American Poets Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Witter Bynner Fellowship from the Library of Congress, and a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Award.” He is the Phillip and Patricia Frost Professor of Creative Writing, at Florida International University.
Mia Leonin is the author of two books of poetry, Braid (Anhinga Press) and Unraveling the Bed (forthcoming from Anhinga Press). She has been awarded an Academy of American Poets Prize and her poems have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Leonin’s poetry has been published in New Letters, Indiana Review, Prairie Schooner, Chelsea and Witness.
Jaswinder Bolina is an American poet and essayist.
