In honor of Miami Art Week and being featured in the Art Basel | VIP Tour, Turn-Based Press will host demonstrations with artists Nick Gilmore and Melissa Agriesti. Visitors are invited to participate!

December 5, 9:30 a.m.

Gonzo Printmaking with Nick Gilmore:
Tossing conventional printmaking techniques aside, Gilmore employs non-traditional materials, such as monofilament, wood shavings, and foam rubber, to produce mixed-media monoprints. This experimental process blurs the role of both press and printmaker and yields unpredictable and exciting results.

December 6, 9:30 a.m.

Dry Point and Monotype with Melissa Agriesti:
Agriesti will be giving a demonstration on etching and monotype, including an introduction to dry point etching, plate inking and wiping, and the manipulation of materials using a printmaking press. Participants will create an etching using plexi glass plates, painting on the plates and will learn how to pull their print.

Nick Gilmore is a Miami-based visual artist. Working primarily in sculpture and printmaking, he often draws inspiration from his experience in the woodworking and construction trades as well as Taoist philosophy. His work, which teeters between metaphor and pure abstraction, explores themes of the dialectic environment and the entanglement of destruction and creation. Local exhibitions include Locust Projects, Turn-Based Press, Dimensions Variable, and 6th Street Container.

Melissa Agriesti is a printmaker who specializes in making unique prints using a combination of modern and traditional printmaking techniques. She has a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She has also travelled internationally studying
and exhibiting as a printmaking artist in both Japan and Australia. Currently Melissa lives in Miami Beach and is a visual arts instructor for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Her favorite printmaking techniques are intaglio and monotype.
