Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant: Endangering the Environment for Cheap Energy?
Tuesday, April 11 2017
4:00 PM-5:30 PM
Nuclear energy has long been a controversial source of power. In South Florida, much of the concern is focused on water quality and marine life, given the location of FPL’s Turkey Point nuclear reactors between two national parks and in proximity to one of the state’s major agricultural areas.
Barry University’s Center for Community Service Initiatives is presenting a Deliberative Dialogue forum to discuss the potential risks Turkey Point is posing on health and the environment. The event will take place at Barry University, Andreas Building, Room 112, on Tuesday, April 11, and will count with the participation of:
-Dr. Philip Stoddard, City of South Miami Mayor
-Dr. Rachel Silverstein, executive director of Miami Waterkeeper, a nonprofit organization that defends, protects, and preserves Biscayne Bay and surrounding waters through citizen involvement and community action
-Dr. Timothy DePalma, an assistant professor in the Emergency Management Program of Barry’s School of Professional and Career Education (PACE)
-Alberto Liriano, a Barry Service Corps fellow
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
