Herman LeVern Jones’ TheatreSouth Presents When a Baby Cries
New Playwright Series Showcases Emerging Talent
The Pompano Beach Cultural Center is proud to present When a Baby Cries by Herman LeVern Jones’ TheatreSouth. The play, written by Benita Alane Cornick, is about the redemptive power of new life, and is part of the company’s new playwright series which shines the spotlight on emerging talent. The play runs August 29 through September 2, with matinee (2 pm) and evening performances (7 pm) Wednesday-Sunday. Tickets are $28 and can be purchased at www.ccpompano.org.
“It is so important to support the work of new playwrights because that’s where the next wave of stories is coming from,” said Jones. “My goal is to bring the untold stories to light, the ones that are just as fun and intriguing as any of the popular plays we know and love today.”
This comedic drama showcases the lives of two women, with differing perspectives on love, marriage and children. Lemon is a woman healing from the scars of a tragic fire intentionally set by her husband 18 years ago, which claimed his life and the life of their infant son. She again begins to feel the sting of loneliness as her best friend, Sweetness, awaits a proposal of marriage from Manny. When Manny arrives, he carries something that destroys Lemon’s world further, but it also could be exactly what she’s been hoping for, the choice is hers.
