Elena Medel (b. 1985) is one of the most talented and promising young writers in Spain today. She has published four books and a chapbook to date, two of which have won prestigious literary awards. At only 16 years old she won the ‘Andalucía Joven’ prize, awarded by the Junta of Andalusia, for her book Mi primer bikini / My First Bikini (DVD, 2002), and last year she won the XXVI Loewe International Poetry Prize, Spain’s most prestigious awards of its kind, for Chatterton, her most recent collection.
