1:30 PM-3:00 PM

The South Beach Jazz Festival returns Jan. 5 – 7, 2018 for a weekend of classic, Latin, and New Orleans-style acts. Over that weekend, open-air performances by local ensembles will draw Lincoln Road promenaders to linger, listen and groove. And even more significantly, the festival musicians will raise public awareness of persons who have disabilities.

Dixieland is the name given to the style of jazz performed by early New Orleans jazz musicians. Not often heard today, a handful of dedicated bands keep the music alive. The Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Band is South Florida’s leading band dedicated to this genre of music. This is one of the earliest styles of jazz music, an intricate jazz sound of music The style combines earlier brass band marches, French Quadrilles, beguine, ragtime, and similar styles to achieve its unique sound. While instrumentation and the size of the bands may vary, the “standard” band comprises a front line of trumpet, trombone, and clarinet; and a rhythm section of either guitar or banjo, string bass or tuba, or piano and drums.
