SMDCAC presents SPEAK: Leela Dance Collective
Saturday, April 25 2020
8:00 PM-9:30 PM
Divided by oceans and centuries, American tap and Indian Kathak dance come together in a celebration of rhythm and culture in SPEAK. Leela Dance Collective’s Rachna Nivas and Rina Mehta, contemporary leaders in the ancient storytelling form of Indian Kathak dance, collaborated with revered tap artist Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and MacArthur Award winning tap choreographer Michelle Dorrance, to explore tradition, innovation, improvisation, female artistry, and the ways art connects us. Accompanied by live Indian and jazz musicians, SPEAK will provoke, move and inspire.
