Simón Vega: Sub-Tropical Building Barabicu
A smoky tuned experiment in social sculptures
November 8 2014 - January 3 2015
All Day
You are hereby invited to participate in an art-happening which will take place Saturday, November 8 at Locust Projects.
We’re roundin’ up a Barbecue, the grill will be hot and a Smokey Record Playing Station will provide the rythms to construct some Tropical Lounge Social Structures.
This event is part of Simón Vega’s upcoming project room intervention at Locust Projects (November 2014-January 2015) and consists of a short series of happenings using basic, simple structures devised for social interaction. Drawing from Joseph Beuys’s Social Sculpture concept but with a sub-tropical, Miami twist, the happenings highlight elements essential to but seldom brought forth in the production of art, such as friendship, humor, collaboration, generosity, improvisation and the temporary nature of relationships. These happenings are inspired in social, fun, side-tracked and non-commercial events that organically happen in the city of Miami, such as BBQs, bonfires, etc. Two of these happenings, a Bonfire Construction event in Little Haiti on the 4th of July and a Smoothie Station challenge at the Fountainhead Residency were already carried out.
From 7-10 pm the event is open for all those wanting to fire up some BBQ creative dishes on the construction style Barabicú
We suggest you bring:
– Burgers, sausages, hot dogs, vegetables, kebabs, etc.
– Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages (vodka, rum, tequila, etc.)
+ other ingredients TO SHARE, everyone will share ingredients
A fun mix of people, sounds, smoke and flavors will provide a chilled afternoon for sharing thoughts and ideas.
