Francesco Lo Castro is a multi-faceted artist interested in overhauling existing infrastructure to create more habitable public spaces.
SENSOR~AID serves as the debut of his new Safety series and the official launch of a long term investigation into healthcare aesthetics and ways artists can positively reinvigorate public institutions through physical and nonphysical interventions.
Lo Castro’s featured sculptures are made of the material foundation of hospitals and establish a poetic hierarchy between raw materials and the artist’s touch. SENSOR~AID is comprised of handmade sculptures, prefabricated furniture, redesigned medical equipment, photography, binaural therapy based sound installations, cookies, and video works.
SENSOR~AID turns the gallery into a showroom at the intersection of expected, standard design and Lo Castro’s future, making it clear what palliative care could be: aesthetically sensitive and consciously designed environments aimed at promoting feelings of wellness, comfort and empowerment.
