Description
UploadDownloadPerform will focus on using simple text instructions to generate movement, sound, and experience in performance. The realm of text scores – also sometimes referred to as event scores – are well known in Fluxus (see the work of Yoko Ono, Alison Knowles, et al), experimental music (John Cage, Pauline Oliveros, et al), dance (Simone Forti), and elsewhere, and continues to be a vibrant platform for many artists, performers, and choreographers today! In this workshop we will harness the use of language to describe, implement, and interpret tasks, activities, meditations, and processes to generate experimental performances. Workshop attendees will create their own scores and then witness them performed by others in the group. All scores produced during the workshop will be uploaded to and documented on http://UploadDownloadPerform.net, a free wiki-repository designed to facilitate the sharing of experimental performance scores. The workshop is open to performance artists, composers, sound artists, filmmakers, writers, and other experimental thinkers.
