Internationally renowned opera director and genre-defying multimedia mastermind Jay Scheib is bringing a modern-day version of the classic Bizet opera, Carmen, to YoungArts. Scheib, a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow and OBIE award-winning director, will work alongside a talented cast of YoungArts alumni to present this multi-dimensional world premiere. Part film, part theater, Scheib’s Carmen includes five interactive vignettes that will be woven together in a live screening on the YoungArts Plaza, where audiences will be greeted with Cuban cigar rollers, rum punch and flamenco dancers. This immersive new media experience is site-specific and uniquely Miami, bringing together cutting edge technology alongside the groundbreaking and once-controversial opera about the most famous temptress of the stage.
