"Machine Project in Miami: Performance and Video Documentation" A premier screening and discussion
Thursday, April 3 2014
7:00 PM-8:30 PM
In 2013, Machine Project, a Los Angeles-based non-profit, invited three Los Angeles-based artists to orchestrate site-specific performances while in residence at the Miami-based Cannonball. Mark Allen (Machine Project) and David Fenster (Filmmaker), will premiere and discuss the video made in response to the Miami performances and show selections from the Machine Project video archive.
The most exciting performance today is often ephemeral, participatory, and intimate. It’s also highly resistant to straightforward documentation. How might filmmakers capture the effects of a live experience? Can we think of video as partnering with performance to create new works, rather than evidence of an absent action? What strategies may respond to new forms of performance, theatre and dance?
