Improv Lab for Filmmakers
Sunday, June 21 2015
9:00 AM-1:30 PM
One of the most difficult tasks for filmmakers is to work with actors in the creative and collaborative process.
The art of improvisation is becoming a necessary tool to explore and create for film, both from the filmmaker and actor’s perspective; whether it’s extracting new content from existing material, to diving deeper into the actor’s ability to improvise and create, both sides of the camera must learn to think on their toes to produce the best performance possible.
In this Improv Lab for Filmmakers, presented by Just The Funny in collaboration with FilmGate Interactive, filmmakers will work with an expert improv instructor David Christopher, with a background in film to incorporate improvisation as a tool to work with both material and actors. Participating filmmakers will get to learn the structure of improvisation and then apply it to their own material in a fully interactive structure, while also getting the actor’s perspective. The Lab will also give filmmakers the opportunity to network and collaborate with other filmmakers.
THE IMPROV LAB WILL INCLUDE:
– An introduction and overview of improv structure
– Intensive scenework
– Improvising from existing material & the directorial process
– Networking
– Q & A with the instructor
Limited to 30 people*
