How to: From a Vimeo Viral Sensation to a Hollywood Director

If you watch the trailer for the new Adam Sandler comedy Pixels, you’ll find the funny man’s usual antics and eye popping 8-bit graphics developed from the backing of a major movie studio.

Take a closer look, and what’s more remarkable is the short film that inspired it…

Meet Patrick Jean, the French filmmaker on a rocket ride from a Vimeo viral sensation to a big studio director. In collaboration with the French Embassy in Miami, we are presenting a tell all workshop on what happens when you upload a great short on Vimeo from your basement that launches you to a Hollywood studio in just a year.

About Patrick Jean
A 2002 graduate of Supinfocom, Patrick Jean first made his debut as a graphic designer, creating credit sequences for television shows, and allowing him to develop his skills in graphic design and discover his penchant for direction. In 2010, he directed his first short film « Pixels », inspired by video games he used to play in his childhood. Pixels has been seen 1 million times in just 24 hours after its release, creating a huge buzz on the internet, and won around 30 awards, including the prestigious Annecy Crystal in 2011. From 2011 to 2015, Patrick worked on the Sony Pictures adaptation of his short film helmed by Chris Columbus, who wrote the Goonies and directed the first two Harry Potter movies. Following the phenomenal success of Pixels, Patrick Jean directed music videos, other short films and commercials for brands like Audi, Hermès or Eurostar. He is also working on his first feature film: « Omni Visibilis« , adapted from a french comic book of the same name, which is currently being developed at Chapter 2.
