Florencio Gelabert, A Dialogue with Time

Since his initial works from Cuba in the early 80’s, Florencio Gelabert continues to look for ways of expression that go beyond the traditional standards of sculpture, using unconventional materials and forms, and deconstructing the actual concept of sculpture. His efforts have focused on the creation of sculptures and installations that incorporate elements extracted from nature, utilitarian objects and architectural fragments. This exhibition consists of a new series of large-scale sculptures, installations, drawings and sketches exploring topics such as beauty and destruction, violence and serenity, through the manipulation of materials and recreation of imaginary spaces.

Gelabert’s work is included in several public and private collections: Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; Vin & Sprithistoriska Museet, Stockholm, Sweden; Neuberger Museum of Art at Purchase College SUNY, NY; The Goldberg Collection at Nassau County Museum, Roslyn Harbor, NY; MOCA, North Miami, FL; The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, FIU, Miami; Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; the Santa Fe Museum of Art, New Mexico, and the Cisneros Collection in Caracas, Venezuela.
