Daniel Arsham: Welcome to the Future
+ Project Room: Simón Vega: Sub-Tropical Social Sculptures
Locust Projects presents ‘Welcome to the Future’, Daniel Arsham’s first major exhibition in Miami since 2010. Arsham is known for his sculptural and architectural works, which wrap or destabilize recognizable structure and forms. This installation creates an excavation trench in the gallery’s floor, holding calcified artifacts, such as boom boxes, electric guitars, Nintendo controllers, VHS tapes, Walkman’s and other 20th century media devices of the like. The trench presents the recent past as archeology, a world of technological objects whose obsolescence was built in the design. Rather than regarding these objects as individual sculptures, the artist presents them as a mass below our feet, producing a new narrative of production, history and discovery.
Locust Projects is also pleased to present Simon Vega’s Sub-Tropical Social Sculptures, exhibiting in our project room from November 2014 until January 2015.
Please join us the for the opening reception, taking place November 15 at 7:30 P.M. at Locust Projects.
