CURRENT is an underwater virtual reality guided meditation composed of a deconstructed collage of poetry, memes, meditation tropes, and surreal/fabricated environments, created and led by Jillian Mayer for O, Miami Poetry Festival 2016.

Featuring lines lifted and collaged from: Fay Zwicky, A.R. Ammons, Margaret Atwood, Mary Oliver, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Lowell, some dank memes, guided meditations from the internet, Creative Coloring Books for Adults, and Jillian Mayer.

If you are unable to attend the event, a 360 degree video of the experience is currently under construction and can be ported directly to your VR headset.

HOW IT WORKS

A guided meditation session will take place in a large pool with a group of twenty to thirty strangers at sunset in the pool at the Standard Spa, Miami Beach.

Participants will be supplied with robes, blacked-out goggles, snorkels and a flotation device. Otherwise, PLEASE WEAR WHATEVER YOU LIKE TO SWIM IN.

The group will be quietly lead into the pool and instructed to take distance from other members in the group. On an audio cue, they will be instructed to lower their heads into the water with their faces fully submerged. With the float under their arms supporting their
weight, they will be instructed to relax their bodies.

With their ears submerged, the participants will be greeted by an audio recording that plays underwater on a surround speaker system. A 15 minute musical/meditational composition will lead the group on a series of mental prompts, conceptual mediations and light movements.
