FOUNDER DAVE DANIELS BLOWS OFF RETIREMENT TO HOST KICKSTARTER RALLY CONCERT IN SUPPORT OF CHURCHILL’S DOCUMENTARY
“Kickstarter Rally,” an event in support of the documentary Little Haiti Rock City, is not your mother’s fundraiser. Expect a true Churchill’s experience – one adrenaline-fueled, no-holds barred, fully interactive rock-n-roll showcase featuring your favorite local musicians on Saturday, June 28. The event is being held to promote the film’s Kickstarter campaign, which ends only five days later on July 3 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
The “Kickstarter Rally” lineup includes Charlie Pickett, humbert, The Pawnshop Drunks, Shark Dust Sisters (featuring members of Load, Quit, and The Holy Terrors), Tremends and international noise king, Rat Bastard. A trailer of Little Haiti Rock City will also be screened at the event.
Dave Daniels opened Churchill’s Pub in 1979, making the club one of the oldest live music bars still around. Considered the “CBGB’s of the South,” the bar is home to the longest running jazz jam in Miami, and was the launching pad for the likes of Marilyn Manson, Iron & Wine and The Mavericks. Iggy Pop and members of U2 and REM have also been known to pop in. Churchill’s has been featured in several music videos and feature films, including the Farrelly brothers’ There’s Something About Mary. Local filmmakers Franco Parente and Angel Eva Markoulis were inspired to shoot Little Haiti Rock City, a documentary capturing the legendary venue’s rich history, after Daniels retired recently, selling the pub after 34 years.
Daniels is set to co-host with Nicky Bowe, named by the Miami New Times as one of the most influential people in the Magic City. If you’ve ever sat down for pint of cider, shot a game of pool, moshed during a Jacuzzi Boys set or watched a Manchester United match at Churchill’s, chances are the Irish rogue with the quick laugh is no stranger. Bowe, who has previously collaborated with Parente and is co-producing the film, is returning to his old stomping grounds to help raise funds for the film.
Little Haiti Rock City is sure to be an instant classic. Come rock out Churchill’s style and support local filmmakers on Saturday, June 28 at 8 p.m. This is sure to be one event you do not want to miss.
Admission is $10, which goes towards the production costs of Little Haiti Rock City. Patrons will have the opportunity to make further contributions via iPads available at the event. Visit www.littlehaitirockcity.com for more information on the film, and www.Kickstarter.com to make a donation.
