AIRIE in the Garden
Saturday, January 24 2015
2:00 PM-5:00 PM
AIRIE invites you to an afternoon benefit of Everglades inspired art and live performances featuring artists from its 2014-15 residency program. Situated in the heart of South Florida, Pinecrest Gardens is the perfect setting for a gathering to benefit the Artists in Residence in Everglades program, now entering its 14th year. This historical landmark, formally known as Parrot Jungle since 1936, is a magical setting featuring huge banyan trees, shaded ponds, and outdoor theaters. Together we will roam the 14 acre botanical garden in search of performances, poetry readings, audio and visual art site-specific installations. Delightful refreshments from local chefs and meeting AIRIE fellows will provide a special opportunity to learn more about creating art in the River of Grass.
Featured artists include AIRIE Fellows:
Elite Kedan
Ana Mendez
Christina Pettersson
Regina Jestrow
Jason Hedges
Reed Van Brunschot
Valerie LeBlanc & Daniel Dugas
Caterina Tiazzoldi
AIRIE is a unique program that provides an extraordinary opportunity for artists to reside within the Everglades National Park. Organized by Donna Marxer, this unique program was started in 2001 after U.S. Congress passed the $8 billion Everglades Restoration Plan. Special monthly events and exhibitions of new work created by artists who participated in the AIRIE residency at Everglades National Park have attracted the attention of thousands in the past year. The artists spend a month living and working in the Park, immersed in the ecological and cultural concerns of our endangered World Heritage Site.
AIRIE fellows will be present to provide a special opportunity to learn more about creating art in the River of Grass.
Tickets start at $60 and include an artistic twist on culinary refreshments and a membership to AIRIE, available online at www.airie.org. Questions? Email [email protected]
Host Committee: Janice Angel, Valerie Grace Ricordi, Tami Katz-Freiman and BJ Sheffield
