AFRIKIN® 2018 | Art • Culture • Community
Saturday, May 19 2018
6:00 PM-11:30 PM
AFRIKIN® 2018 is coming on Saturday, May 19th, and will hopefully do for you, and the world beyond, what it has done for the community that produced it: leave it more beautiful than when we inherited it.
AFRIKIN® (pronounced ah-free-kin) is a platform that curates the arts and culture of people of color, as we advance our ingenuity and promise across the Diaspora.
AFRIKIN® 2018 will present an evening of current culture through art, fashion, talks, food, innovation and performance – ways to connect, communicate and experience the lives and perspectives of our brothers and sisters, our AFRIKIN® family.
Our evening of pride, gratitude and love involves:
African, American, Caribbean and Latin Cuisine • Curated Open Bar • Dance • Drumming • Film Screening • AFRIKIN® Runway • Roof Top Mingling with Beautiful People.
In addition we keep the evening informative with our AFRIKIN® Talks segment: Crafting the Narrative, is our topic for 2018. It delves into ways society has been psychologically dismantling us and ways we can work to strategically empower ourselves. We will be hosting a diverse group for our panel discussion with notable keynote speaker.
Our upcoming celebration coincides with the birthday of the Honorable Malcolm X who said it best: The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.
AFRIKIN® promotes connectivity, culture, oneness, racial and social justice as expressed through the arts.
People from various parts of the earth provide a perspective on how different cultures occupying the same space and time, converge. The result of this combining of communities gives life to a new hybrid form of culture – embraced and shared for cultural convergence.

“A race of people is like an individual man; until it uses its own talent, takes pride in its own history, expresses its own culture, affirms its own selfhood, it can never fulfill itself.” — Malcolm X #AFRIKIN
