7:00 PM-9:00 PM

ICA Miami is pleased to present a talk by Tim Griffin, Executive Director and Chief Curator of The Kitchen in New York. Griffin will discuss contemporary painting and preview his contribution to ICA Miami’s forthcoming catalogue, Ryan Sullivan. The talk will take place on Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the general public with RSVP. Priority seating is reserved for members only.

Tim Griffin is Executive Director and Chief Curator of The Kitchen, an internationally-acclaimed institution giving support to—and seeking to foster a living dialogue among—artists from every field and area of culture in the effort to create an art for our time. As director and curator, he has organized exhibitions by Danh Vo and Xiu Xiu, Chantal Akerman, and Gretchen Bender, as well as choreographers Gerard & Kelly; and performances by Richard Maxwell and Aki Sasamoto, as well as by composers Morton Subotnick, Laurel Halo, James Hoff, C. Spenser Yeh, and Samita Sinha, among many others. His upcoming projects include a collaboration with Ralph Lemon and a multidisciplinary exhibition, “From Minimalism into Algorithm,” exploring serial composition techniques during the past forty years. From 2003 to 2010 Griffin was editor-in-chief of Artforum. During that time he organized comprehensive issues on the legacies of minimalism and land art; contemporary notions of performance; art and its markets; the philosophy of Jacques Rancière; and, in his final issue, the museum reconsidered in a current context radically different from that of its conception. Griffin’s “Worlds Apart: Contemporary Art, Globalization, and the Rise of Biennials” was recently published in Contemporary Art: 1989 to the Present, and he has penned monographic essays on artists and filmmakers such as Akerman, John Baldessari, Seth Price, Taryn Simon, and Kelley Walker; and he is editing a volume of collected writings on the art of Wade Guyton.
