WHO: Renowned black female artist Lyric Prince. She was born and raised in Richmond, VA and received her B.A. in Fine Arts from Saint Joseph’s University, and has recently completed an M.S. in Science, Technology, and Society from Drexel University. Current research background and interests include medical anthropology, mass media representation of the body, and visual culture online. Her experience includes digital installations, blogging, and drawing/painting large-scale works in live settings. The inspiration behind her work can be captured in three segments- 1. Movement 2. Personhood 3. Transformation She currently lives and works in Philadelphia and DC.
WHAT: In the last three decades, global contemporary art has been rethought and reconstituted many times. The lecture seeks to engage the role of African Diaspora arts in these processes over time rather than on what they were(still are) imagined to be; fixed, held at the margins of contemporary expressions.
