StrangeWays: Issue 2

Last year we introduced you all to the local zine StrangeWays [see: Beaux Idols With Strangeways]. The underground art zine will release 150 copies of Issue 2 this Friday with a blow-out party to prove it! The zine consists of the contributions of several local artist and likewise, the event will feature several of them doing their thing including live silk screening of limited edition StrangeWays shirt design by Jamie Jones and Street Impressions. What we enjoy the most about covering StrangeWays is learning about the many talented contributors. Let’s take a look what we uncovered about the party participants and their party favors…

The party will be live streamed live and feature select interviews by Jolt Radio, who has become increasingly actively in live local event streams. John Caignet, founder, is also set to drop a DJ set himself. Jolt Radio is a free form online radio station that supports emerging independent artists from the local, national, and international scene.

“Our goal is to introduce you to new music, and also keep you updated on your favorite bands. We want to keep this interactive, by allowing you to share your opinions on new music, and discussing concert reviews.”

Coloform: Augusto Mendoza x Edau

Augusto Mendoza and Edau work on design and publishing under the name ColoformAugusto Mendoza works on a variety of design projects, as well as developing his own practice which is predominantly exercised in book form. Augusto enjoys all things printed, and all machines that print. On his off time, he likes to cook, ride bike, pretend to diet and buy books. Edau works in different creative fields in graphic design and illustration taking a clean, systematic approach towards each project while conveying a visual aesthetic that is entirely its own. Acre Residency, based in Chicago, commissioned Edau and Augusto to design and produce a daily one page newspaper, Acre Pape. The paper launched during Art Basel 2012 at the NADA Art Fair.  Coloform also designed and printed a poster for a giveaway during Art Basel 2012.

The duo designed a limited edition poster to give away at the StrangeWays zine release party. Although we failed at getting a peak of the design to share with you all,  here are some shots of the previous Coloform collaborations we found on the interwebs:

Vicios Culturales: Video Documentation

Vicios Culturales strives to provide audiences with great digital content – all the cultural vices that become passions. They will be on-site this Friday at Lester’s documenting the StrangeWays zine release party. Their first video released by Vicios Culturales goes in depth into the life of an underground tattoo artist who talks about some of the taboo subjects in the industry and proves that tattooing at home can be a better, more personable and maybe even safer experience than getting work done at a shop. Check it out:
