Marcus Blake, host of The Vagabond’s weekly open-mic night Stone Groove Tuesdays, is curating a new poetry series on Tropicult to provide the artist and poets a home in the interweb.

The series will feature his own work as well as the works by other Stone Groove performers. Kicking-off the series is the man himself — Marcus Blake, paying homage to the infamous Stone Groove Square.

THE SQAIR

As the night falls and the mic call,
the sun repeats its fate.

I think to myself,
today has been more than great.

Everything is in place to escape
into a worlds of excess,
white mask, no cape.

To the music of the band I undress,
and poetically confess.

This got to be church
because the melody is so damn heavenly.
You need to come to the service,
find meaning in sharing your purpose.

We are only underground.

To those to who can’t see below the surface
we are the stone that the builder refused.

The children of the music,
born into the groove.

The life of an artist
is not something you choose.

The craft chooses you.
Art is not something you do,
it who you are through and through.
